Over the next five years, it is estimated that <\/span><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">79% of Data Centers in Mexico<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> will see at least a six-fold increase in connectivity demand due to AI development from major players like Meta and Google, according to estimates by the consultancy firm Ciena.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">However, this surge presents a challenge: Mexico currently possesses only <\/span><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">3% of the fiber optic mileage<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> deployed in the United States, one of the world&#8217;s most robust markets for Data Center connectivity. This gap was highlighted by Sim\u00f3n Masri, President of C3ntro Telecom.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Importance of Fiber<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">Fiber optics are vital for this infrastructure because their composition\u2014thousands of glass filaments that conduct light pulses\u2014allows for high-speed data transfer and lower latency for video, music, and all internet content.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">While there is no exact current figure for the total kilometers of fiber in Mexico, two years ago, IFT (Federal Telecommunications Institute) Commissioner S\u00f3stenes D\u00edaz estimated approximately <\/span><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">412,000 km<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> in access networks and <\/span><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">266,000 km<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> in transport networks. These figures remain insufficient for future needs.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">According to the Mexican Data Center Association, <\/span><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">73 new Data Centers<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> are expected to be built by 2029, joining the 166 already operating in the market. Masri emphasized that Mexico must accelerate deployment to meet the data consumption demands of these massive infrastructures, despite current challenges.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">&#8220;There is a threat of tariffs, but companies know they cannot stay out of AI Data Center development. Despite uncertainty, inflation, or exchange rate issues, the demand for internet and data will not stop,&#8221; Masri stated.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Betting on Fiber Expansion: The Tikva Project<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">C3ntro Telecom<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> aims to capitalize on this opportunity through its <\/span><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">Tikva Project<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">. This initiative involves the underground deployment of <\/span><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">2,500 kilometers of fiber optics<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> to connect Quer\u00e9taro with Phoenix, Arizona\u2014two major tech hubs\u2014to serve the AI demands of Google, Amazon, and Meta.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">Project Details:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">Coverage:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> 29 repetition points passing through cities such as Hermosillo, Mazatl\u00e1n, Guaymas, Culiac\u00e1n, Durango, Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Celaya, Irapuato, and Le\u00f3n.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">Security:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> Since the route includes areas with high crime rates, the company stated that governments have offered support to ensure the safety of the 3,000+ workers involved.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">Resilience:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> The network is entirely underground, making it &#8220;immune to hydrological and geographical issues or natural disasters,&#8221; and significantly more secure than aerial networks.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Target Market<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">The goal is to market the project to &#8220;Hyperscalers&#8221; like <\/span><strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Oracle, and Meta<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 20.925px\">.
